Hi, I'm Paige!
Perfectly fine. Not perfect.
I’m also a compulsive gambler. On February 26, 2019, I attended my first Gamblers Anonymous meeting. My road to recovery wasn’t easy, especially in regard to finances. Not including my mortgage, I owed more than $63,000 in personal loan and credit card debt. With a five-figure income and a terrible history of managing money, I had to find a way to quickly dig myself out of debt, change my relationship with money, and get my finances back on track. I knew my successful recovery depended on it.
In just under five years, I had turned my financial situation completely around. I eliminated all interest-bearing debt (except my mortgage) within two years, and then spent the next three years increasing my net worth so that I could quit my job at the end of 2023 and set out on my mission to help others with gambling disorders.
Since 2024, I’ve written a memoir about my gambling addiction that will be published in the summer of 2026, I’ve attended and presented at state and national conferences on problem gambling, I was selected to participate in the Community Ambassador Collaborative through the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio, I’ve been volunteering with my local county’s prevention coalition, and more.
My goal is to help people who are struggling with problem gambling to get into recovery, to educate society about the risks associated with gaming and gambling, and to advocate for more assistance, protections, and regulations in relation to gambling harm.
This free biweekly newsletter is a collaborative effort where—through your words and mine—we offer suggestions, encouragement, and connection to those struggling financially while trying to recover from a spending or gambling compulsion. You’re not alone.
